Default Was GWEN too expensive for what we got?

I realise this is a bit late to talk about, since people have spent the money now. But was £17.99-£29.99 too expensive for an expansion that was ultimately 1/4 the size of a full campaign?

Paying full campaign price seems daft when you look back on what you have bought. We all had expectations of there being alot more area to explore atleast, and we basically got a very small number of new instances.

So what did we get for that price?

18 dungeons,
40 new armors (which are questionably rubbish),
A very small number of PvE+PvP skills for each profession,
New PvE only skills,
New greens and skinned weapons,
Very few new quests,
3 new titles (one of which is not a dedicated exploration title).
a very small number of very easily explored instances,
A small selection of new creatures to fight including the destroyers,
Some new pets,
and the chances to meet 2 new races and learn more about the drawfs!

Also a storyline that is completeable in just a few days (which isnt anything new). Was that worth the price of a new campaign?

Dont miss-understand me! I love 95% of GWEN (the 5% being the armors) and Im glad they released it, but the price now seems too high for what you get!

Had it been half the price atleast, I wouldnt have minded the re-skinning of armors and the small amount of new content. I think Anet needs to take a look at this and realise to price things more carefully!

Putting a price tag of £29.99 RRP on it, suggested it was going to have alot to it, and it didnt!

Maybe Anet plans to add more content over the next 2 years with updates, but if so, why not add them now or have waited?

It seems hard to believe GWEN is as small as it is for that price!

[edit]

I should have mentioned I got mine from play.com for £17.99, but I still believe that a bit too much for a game of this size.

It's a matter of opinion... if the buyer liked it or not.

I liked it, therefore, it was worth it.... to me.

It does some overpriced in terms of £ Pounds, but I only paid £25 via the ingame store. I would have guess £20 would be more reasonable, but oh well

For what we got, this was worth about $10 at the most. I hope, since I bought it online, that the 4 missions we get in November are better then this. It may be the only saving grace for this whole mess they call an expansion.

I think...
No, it wasn't
GWEN is high-quality product (but actually minus armours that i don't like...) and worth the price ArenaNet charges for it.

I guess if you add up the cost of all your guild wars purchases and divide it by the number of months you have played the game, it still works out a hell of a lot cheaper than rival MMORPGs.. that charge a monthly fee.. so it is good value for money in the long run.

GW:EN RRP is £24.99, fish. Most places sell it for £19.99, I paid £17.99 for mine. Money well spend, I say.

Would agree for the other 3 completely. Would have paid more for the other 3. EON was a waste of money.

I guess there are 2 problems in the UK. (a) We're used to pretty large discounts from certain online retailers. (b) £17.99 is pretty much as low as those said retailers go for a new release. That means that GW:EN ends up costing the same as the standalones, whether it's an expansion or not. Add in the apparent inability for the online store to offer a discount and yeah, it seems pricey, but I wouldn't go as far as criticising the amount of content.

There's certainly stuff I don't like at all about GW:EN (debated endlessly elsewhere), but size isn't one of them. With previous chapters I was reading about people completing them almost straight away and I was generally still pottering around noob territory. That's pretty much the same with GW:EN - I've only just dragged my ass out of Norn territory (with very few sidequests completed). I probably won't finish the game this month, as I'm in no hurry.

Heck, I think it's you people rushing through and then complaining that it's over too quickly, that have gotten us saddled with all the grind-based tasks!

Money well spent, imo.

EDIT: I spent 30 EURO on it, 35 if the preview counts.

No.

Rejuvenated my interest in GW. All I use to do before was sit in the GH abusing guildies. Now I'm actually playing, and enjoying myself.

Riding on the devourer was hilarious. Tanking Molotov with the devourer NEVER fails to amuse.

GG Anet IMO

They put enough time and work into it to justify the price. I love it, it is short, the armors arn't great (at all), but it is enjoyable enough for me to spend the $40, knowing I'll get alot of added playtime out of it in the future.

The quests were a blast, the dungeons are awesome. Well worth the admission price.

How can you say it's short? I doubt anyone has truly completed it yet.

Maxed titles
All armors
All side quest
All dungeons
All greens
100% explored

etc

You might have pwnd the weak ass boss at the end but that doesn't mean you have finished.

I do not Believe Anet has justification to charge 40 dollers thats 10 less than a full campaign the more resonable price would have been less than the price of the original campaign which i see for 30 dollers at best buy 20-25 dollers would have been best to charge since its only a expanshion and not a full campaign but again Companies love money more than customer care and service

Im still confused how A American Made and Based Game can charge less in the uk you saiy 17.99 what ever that symbol is im not sure what the conversion rate is but how and the heck can Anet hate its own country this much to give all the mini pet promotions and cheap discounts to non US members no offence to anyone but i think you would agree that if a Company released a game in your country that was made their as well but charged less to people in a different country and realesed more content to them how would you feel.
Does anyone feel as if ANET Dislikes americans even tho they are in fact american

GWEN is way better that some other games that are out there.
For the $40-50 we payed we got a lot considering all the work that we have to do to get crafters to talk to us.
Thats playing time that we payed for. Much better than bioshock with its $50 tag and 9 hours of play and 5 times limit for install.

So all in all, yeah gwen is worth the price.

No its not too expensive, a lot of work was done for GW:EN, and I'm sure they will continue to update it over the next few months.

The whole Anet model comes across to me as quite a good value, I've been playing GW for two years, and will probably play for a good while still.

Compared to the traditional stand alone game or monthly fee online games, it still works out to be a good buy.
